A dark silhouette moved swiftly and silently through the undergrowth of the forest, carefully avoiding contact with all vegetation. Norfair was on a hunt, searching for the wild pigs that freely roamed the forest. The hot, humid air of the Forgotten Rainforest did not aid her in her hunt, for the pigs disliked the heat and retreated into their burrows to escape it. But there was no question that she must find their hiding place, for the members of the Sightless Tribe had not eaten in days. For three nights in a row she had been unsuccessful in her hunt, and she was determined to find at least one pig for the tribe. That and her overwhelming desire to kill another living thing. About two hours into her hunt, she heard the tiny squeal of a pig nearby. Norfair quickly absorbed herself in the shadows that surrounded her using her highly developed abilities of shadow manipulation and waited for the pig to draw close. It was coming, the shadows told her so. The shadows spoke to her with menacing words that would have chilled an ordinary to the bone, but she had no time for such nonsense, nor did she ever allow them to sway or manipulate her. But she did listen to them, for they could speak the truth with some persuasion. She received word that the pig was about to come near her and began to prepare her attack. Norfair re-materialized herself, still as black as pitch, and pulled a black scimitar from the darkness of her cloak. The pig came walking into the undergrowth and was dead in seconds as Norfair brought the scimitar down on its head. Blood oozed everywhere from the deep gash that was made in its now broken neck and its legs still twitched with delayed responses from the nervous system. Norfair came out of the darkness she had concealed herself with and stepped forward to pick up the bloody corpse. Her pale face and dark hair shone clearly in the half light of the moon. After making several attempts to lift the pig, she decided it was best to simply drag it back to the tribe. She picked it up by the legs and began dragging it away, leaving a thick trail of blood on the soil beneath. Her hunt had finally been successful.

The light, flickering and ever changing by the cut of leaves as they twirled with the wind caused the shadows and light to dance together upon the forest floor. There was a voice, like chimes, or the hearty rush and gather of water on rocks. Mixed with the subtle whisper of the wind as it combed through the trees the voice was utterly dazzling. It was a song of ancient tongues, mixed with words of old Greek or roman ancestry. The light, glowing on the eclipsed shapes of leaves against the sun was somewhat like the affect the light had on a small girl that sat on a large, flat rock in the middle of that circle of dense forest. Seemingly apathetic of her vulnerable existence being out in the open, singing those strange notes and words. There was a thin sheet of light simply dancing upon her lovely skin. Arms and the ends of her legs revealed by a simple silken white gown. No embroidery, or other material appeared to be used in the making of the dress, the straps thick and covering most of her shoulders. Her head was lifted to the sky that faded in and out throughout the swinging branches. The girl appeared about ten or twelve as the silk didn't show any hint of a woman's form and her cheeks were still rosy with youth. Her feet were bare, toes almost touching the dank chill of the forest floor covered in scattered leaves and mulch. Her hair was a distinctive white that draped elegantly well passed her shoulders to the bend of her wrists. Small hands supporting herself on the smooth seat. The child didn't move and hardly batted her large, deep mocha eyes, only sat there and sang.

The sunlight streamed down through the leaves, bathing the forest floor in a warm, iridescent light. The brilliant summer magic of the forest was only ruffled by the soft padding of a wandering woman. Hoshi-Ko was her name, and this was the 8th village that she was cast out of in a week! The familiar burn in her legs and the pang in her stomach had, over the years, become a friendly reminder that she was still alive. At least she had managed to snag a bit of jerky, bread and water before she left, and she grabbed some out of her side-bag now to eat. With a sigh of contentment she continued to walk and eat. Slowly, a song driffted to her on the breeze. Intrigued, the shuned half-breed wandered tword the source of the song.

The harmonies bobbed and weaved with one another, fixing and synchronizing like it was created by multiple holy voices instead of the simple being it emitted from. The little girl still remained on her natural throne. The reflection of the suns light on the leaves creating pale reds and golds to dance about in the clearing and the shadows of the leaves to shrink back, dancing to her music. Her lips barely moved with her song, the ancient words and syllables synced with her lips, moving quickly and elegantly. The power and beauty of he sound seemed otherworldly and unlikely to fit in the small parcel of which carried it. Lost in her own song, or perhaps her thoughts. Head tilted back so her bright eyes viewed the whole of the forest.

Thoughs voices... where...? Hoshi-Ko thought to herself. The haunting melody was drawing nearer but, when you would think that you found the source, it moved, like a game of tag. It never back-tracked, though. Always forward. Sprites. It has to be spritees playing tricks on me! The violet-eyed half-breed let out an agrivated groan andd pushed her hair out of her face but, none the less, she still kept on trecking through the underbrush. After a while, the woman came to a small, beautiful clearing. Roses bushes lined the tree edge with only four openings, north, south, east, and west. Heh... a compass rose! The sunlight cast an almost holy glow to the place, and to its main occupant, a little girl. What was a little girl doing out here in the middle of the woods? Hoshi-Ko looked around susspiciously before entering the light of the clearing.

The child didn't seem to notice the older girl. Her silken dress, loose and flowing like a nightgown, luminous on her glorious milky skin. She was completely white, the fabric of her gown, the creamy complexion of her skin, the long threads of her hair. The thin screens that penetrated the forest canopy actually appeared to glow on her with an angelic radiance. Her song was hypnotizing, even its owner seemed to be lost in a daze as the words left her. Some high pitched and long, others smooth and wafting in that ancient tongue, both cryptic and awe inspiring. She was such a small little girl, her tiny fingers and toes molded to fit the petite proportions of her limbs, her torso, and her craned skull that still fixed her gaze on the hovering tree tops. The obvious word to describe her, pure-- but surely that was only the surface. As her song rang almost hollow, mournful. So grand and beautiful it made the heart ache and the mind wander. An interesting little girl.

The child showed no interest in her listener, but Hoshi-Ko didn't care. In fact the music was so heavenly that every bad memory or grudge was wipped clean from her mind. Had she been a full star spirit, perhaps the music wouldn't have such an apeal, but the human side of Hoshi-Ko had its weaknesses. Hoshi-Ko tried to get closer to the girl. As she walked to the lone figure, the half-breed walked into a bush and flipped head over heels, landing on her back with a loud thump. "Ah ha ha how!! That hurt!" Tears stung her eyes as Hoshi-Ko slowly pushed herself up from the ground.

The child's bright eyes blinked as she was casted away from her reverie. Her face angling back to where Ko had landed with a start. The abrupt silence that came from the absence of her song was staggering, almost chilling in how the rush of leaves ran so clear compared to before. She stared at Ko with a blank face, one of humble curiosity. She was relatively still and her bright eyes didn't stray for the longest moment. Then her lips tugged into a fair smile. She remained on her natural throne, her shoulders shaking a little by a tiny chuckle that escaped her. "Hello, I am Katsami, child of the fox and kitsune." Her singing voice ran true through her regular voice: mystic, ancient, and pure. Yet it didn't sound as profound and mournful as her song did, and shaped her even more like a child. Her smile genuine and lasting as she looked down at Ko with an amused stare.

Hoshi-Ko couldn't help but grin at the little girl as she got up from the forest floor. "Hi," Hoshi-Ko coughed, trying to get the usual amount of air back into her lungs, before adding, "I'm Hoshi-Ko... I'ld rather not talk about my parentage if you don't mind."

Katsami angled her head, the tilt causing her glossy white hair to cascade over her right shoulder. The sunlight reflecting off of it in another angelic glow. Her face took again to that humble curiosity. "Parentage?" She echoed, then let out another tiny giggle. "You're funny. I have no parents." The little girl said it without hesitation, the subject seeming common and unimportant to her. Katsami had a very animated face, changing expressions quickly and seamlessly, her fair face now holding a gentle and happy stare. "'Hoshi-ko'..." She repeated to herself, her eyes momentarily closing but returned quickly. The angle of her head was normal again and her fair hair now evenly spilled off her back in its heavenly white layers.

Hoshi-Ko couldn't help but raise an eyebrow. She was funny? This kid was about as funny as they get! Okay, maybe Hoshi-Ko hadn't talked to enough people to compare this child to anyone else, but- wait, "No parents?" It was Hoshi-Ko's turn to tilt her head in confusion.

Katsami nodded, the same fair smile on her face. She seemed unaffected by the topic, unlike how many other children would probably act under the circumstance. She raised her gaze thoughtfully to the above forest canopy, her bright eyes staring off aimlessly. "I don't have parents because I never had a true 'birth'. I wasn't conceived or even thought of, I was just 'born'." The little girl made her first real movement in a while, her legs swinging restlessly. Her tiny feet easily clearing the ground in her small sweeps.

"So you mean to tell me that you just, one day, sprung outa the ground and knew how to walk and talk and shit like that?" Hoshi-Ko was definatly confused.

Katsami's shoulder quivered as a light chuckle escaped her lips, closing her eyes momentarily. Her bright stare refocused on Hoshi, grinning humorously. "You're funny," The girl raised her index finger, pointing aimlessly at the sky. "I already knew how to." A gentle breeze picked up, tugging at the threads of her angelic white hair. She rose a small hand to still it, her smile dropping as her animated face turned toward the wind. As she did two points of her scalp quivered for a brief second and a pair of cream colored ears materialized on her head. Their pink insides swerving to point in the direction of the wind, the left flicking. "Well that isn't good..." Katsami mumbled to herself, her ears, the same Chasity white of her hair, pressed back on her skull. As they did the outline of their shape melted into her skull and her head became bare once more. Katsami turned her bright stare back to Hoshi like the whole escapade with her ears had never happened, giving her a light smile. "You should go. My brother, Bear, is coming, and he's not fond of strangers," Her lids closed momentarily and her smile became sweet, looking so gentle on her angelic face. "Please come back and play with me again if you want. Or you can stay, but I warn that you're literally risking your skin."
